Whitby Abbey illustration

As part of a package of works incorporating AV design and illustration, we created a wall of ten character designs for the new visitor centre to highlight the key protagonists of the Abbey’s story and support the historical narrative of the displays.

A biography was developed for each personality and detailed symbolism incorporated within each illustration to help foster curiosity and engagement. The cast here, in order of appearance; Henry Davell the last Abbot of Whitby, Sir Hugh Cholmeley of Whitby, Bram Stoker, a Roman woman, Caedmon England’s earliest poet, and Abbess Hild the Abbey’s 7th Century founder.
