Imprisonment at the Tower

Inspired by early avant-garde film of the 1920’s, traditional drawn animation was integrated with striking monochrome film footage to create a sense of unease and abstraction and together convey mood, pace and drama. The story of Raleigh’s incarceration in the Bloody Tower unfolds in the space. We see stormy skies forming the backdrop to a Yeoman Warder at dusk, wild seascapes forming the backdrop to a fateful future journey to Guiana in search of gold and the unfolding narrative guiding the visitor through the key themes of Raleigh’s life at the Tower.

Above in the Upper Bloody Tower the story of the missing Princes plays out over a century earlier with similar motifs of layered film and animated elements. A language of film, drawn animation and shadow play contrast speculation, rumour and myth with known facts leaving the visitor to make their own conclusion.

Both films were supported by atmospheric sound design produced by Sound Intermedia.
